Amsterdam Tram Tickets/Seniors

Reposting beause one reader did not like the way I titled the post!? Note he provided no information just his critizm.

Previously posted amessage re tours boats etc.Still no replies. Since then have noted that there is some sort of travel cards at a reduced rate of 7 euros and that these may be used for tram, bus, metro travel. However no where did the article advise where these cards (Senior) could be purchased and under what conditions. These days like to take as much advantage of being 77 as possible. Thanks

Reduced fare tickets (for 4-11 year olds and people aged 65 or older) are only available when purchased in advance.
Reduction entitlement: as well as holders of the Pas 65, people aged 65 or older with a valid identity document are entitled to reduced-fare travel.

All this and more at

For most folks the Strippen Kaarts are the best bet i think as Amsterdam is really compact so you may not tram it as much as you think.

Buy them at the GVB Public Transport Office - 15 strips or the more strips you buy the cheaper each strip is - takes two strips for a normal tram ride and anybody can share the same Strip Card - which can be bought on the tram itself but only in shorter versions at a more per strip cost.

Ask at GVB about any senior discounts, etc. Strip Cards can be used on trams, buses and the metro and commuter trains - the minimum number of strips used each trip is 2 but the farther you go out the more zones or strips you need

There is a pamphlet in English at the GVB office (opposite Central Train Station next to the VVV or Tourist office) that explains all of the city's transit options.

Then there is the Amsterdam Pass which combines transit with entry to several key museums - i think it is overpriced for typical visitor but not always depending on what you do of course.

I think for 7 euros a day you would be better off with using a 15-strip Strip Card.

John I answered your queries as best I could in your previous threads.
Even if you do not qualify for the senior strippenkaart the normal one is not that expensive. You could also look into the I Amsterdam card.

If you give us some idea of what you mean by tours - do you want them of the city or outside the city then we can answer that question too.

Kontgat (which is a poor translation of A**hole btw) is a troll I suspect. Ignore anything by him/her.
