Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - ATM's
I will be visiting Amsterdam soon (my first visit ever) after having spent some time in London and the U.K. Can anyone tell me if it will be easy to find ATM's at Schiphol as I will need Euro's for incidentals in Amsterdam. Normally when just going to London I wait until arrival to get Pounds. Never had any problem at Gatwick or Heathrow but like I said I have never been to the Amsterdam airport. I am thinking it should not be a problem as I have obtained Euro's easily on arrivals at other Euro countries. Thanks. Location of ATM would also be helpful.

Schiphol is the best, and their website is great, too. You can access a floorplan/map that will blink to show you the ATM locations, etc.
1. go to www.schiphol.nl
2. click on Facilities and Maps
3. under the Maps dropdown, click on
"maps - arrivals"
4. open the interactive version
5. drag cursor over the top portion to display the options, click on "Bank/Change" and on "Cash dispensers" to see flashing icons

I always pronounce it as "SKIP-uhl", almost like one syllable but with a slight emphasis on the first.
I hear it said often that it means "ship hull" as the current area is below sea level and during excavations for the airport after the region was drained a ship hull was found. Alternately, it is said to mean "ship hole" because several ships sank here when is was part of the North Sea.
I do know that the "hol" in Holland comes from holt-land, meaning marshland. Holland was the lowest of the Low Countries, or Nederlanden. Holland was a distant part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Perhaps Sjoerd or another person from the Netherlands can comment on the real meaning of Schiphol.
