Amsterdam Restaurant Suggestions for New Year's Eve 2009
Hello--My husband and I will be in Amsterdam over NYE this year. I am trying to plan in advance and was looking for any restaurant suggestions. We are looking for something nice, but not like a $500 dinner or anything like that. We are adventurous eaters and are open to new experiences. This is our second trip to Amsterdam, but we haven't been in about 7 years. I guess one other note to mention is I will be 5 months pregnant at this time, so don't want any venue that is too boozy or smoky.
Kind thanks for any ideas!

My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam has been the Luden for the past few years. It is consistently good in food and service. It's on Spuistraat near the Spui.
For a sidewalk beverage or lunch I recomend the Cafe Luxembourg at the Spui.

I should add that NYE is not a big go out and party night in Holland. Most places are closed. People stay home or with friends. The cities are dead, until midnight. Then all hell breaks loose. Everybody starts setting off their fireworks. It is like a war zone.

Spaarne - Amsterdam is a big go out and party place on NYE - there are various events held on different pleinen in the city, plus the fireworks at midnight of course. The restaurants will be open and could be busy - it is worth booking in advance.
New Years Day everyone is getting over their hangover so the city starts up late, and the museums are closed, but even then some shops will be open.

I can't make any suggestions as to where to eat, I never eat in Amsterdam
Then how do you know the restaurants are open on NYE?

The Anne Frank Huis is open noon to 7PM on NYD.

Last year, we were going to celebrate our family new year's eve together in Amsterdam and the Vinkeles restaurant at the 17th century Dylan hotel was suggested. We ended up celebrating elsewhere (halfway across the world), but I thought you may want to consider this nice restaurant since they do serve a special Oud en Nieuw dinner on Dec 31. It is a special occasion restaurant but without wine (since you're pregnant) you can easily make it well below $500. You can always inquire about their NY's Eve menu or at least preview their ala carte & 95 euro chef's menu here:

Hi; This is a small French restaurant on the inner ring. Very good food at a reasonable price. I had 25 people there and everyone loved our fixed price menue. Google D'Theeboom. Here is the web site. www.theeboom.com/ Richard
