You're wasting your money. Get a B+B for about €70.

Have you compared on a map what parts of the city each hotel is situated? I'd pick for location more importantly than ammenities. (because they better all be great for that price!)

Most people like to locate around the canal rings, espec. the western and southern areas (Jordaan, Vondelpark, Museumplein)... It's nicer than the Dam Square area but walkable to most anything. Further out than the canal rings, you will need to use trams to get around but they're very easy. Just make sure none of your choices are by the airport, the RAI or such, or you will probably be disappointed.

about location, what is the best location?

mian11224 has a great suggestion in your price range. The Ambassade. Not cheap but not extravagant. Stayed there once and loved it. Almost around the corner from my favorite cafes and restaurants at the Spui.

Absolutely from your list nr 1.
Banks Mansion. Great hotel, like you mentioned incl. beverages etc and great location very close (alomost in) city-center at one of the canals.
Nr. 2 Radisson-SAS almost next to redlight district, also close to city-center.

We stayed at the Canal House which was charming, very comfortable with a great breakfast for about 175 Euros per night and that was a splurge for us!

I like it out around Leidseplein and Vondelpark (I think it's much more beautiful) better than in the central part of the city (around the train station, the Dam, RLD). because it felt more manageable and welcoming. The central district had a bit of an "edge" to me as a solo traveler.

another vote for the Ambassade.
Wonderfully central location, good services, pleasant staff, nice room.
I'd stay there again anytime.

If it's the same Marriott I saw a number of years ago(great location, not far from the REichsmuseum), its exterior is as ugly and foreboding as a prison: grey concrete and lots of it.

The Ambassade is the other end of the scale, charmwise. Not for everyone, as some of the lovely rooms are up steps with no elevator. But I, too, loved my stays there. You won't wake up wondering what city you're in thanks to generic surroundings. A string of houses on one of the loveliest canals. Very personal experience and the feel of staying in someone's home, but with hotel service.

It seems your'e interested in more luxurious accomodations. The Grand Sofitel is beautiful with excellent rooms. I stayed there this summer. My room was one of their most basic and it was lovely. My travel companions stayed in a suite which was beautiful. The service was excellent and the food great. The location though is right off of Dam Square. I could walk to everything but I prefer to stay closer to the Spui or Leidesplein (sp?) because it seems more...friendlier.

I stayed at Hotel de l'Europe and it was HORRIBLE. Not worth the money at all. I have pictures and review on my site Bombastic Life.

If you are looking for a wonderful dinner though, I would recommend Excelsior which actually is in the same hotel. Have fun!
