Amsterdam hotel?

Has anyone stayed at the Crowne Plaza-City Centre. I am trying to find a room to accomadate a family of four for $150-$200 from 3/23-3/30/02. I got a quote for $180 for this place. Is is too far to walk to the main attractions? All advice would be appreciated.

Also we will be driving down from Sweden (we are here for 3 years) will it be a problem to park the car for the week?

Thanks in advance.
Gina

Driving in the city of Amesterdam is horrendous!! My suggestion is to park as soon as you find your hotel and take the trams, or walk. Once you get downtown and see the large parking lot the citys' streets are you will be glad you are not sitting in traffic. Me and friend drove from Germany last summer and we spent more time trying to get around downtown to find our hotel then we did driving to Holland. I am sure that other posters will say that this is not true (as that happens frequently) on this board, but that way my experience last summer over the 4 july weekend (which is not a dutch holiday) Have fun!! Amesterdam is my favorite city in europe!!

The Crowne Plaza City centre is at an excellent location close to Central Station and Dam Square. Parking is expensive downtown (about 30 euro/day), so consider parking at the Transferium (Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam Zuidoost) and take the metro from there.

Just stayed at the Crowne Plaza CC. We had a Christmas special through bookings.nl for 60 Euros per night for standard room or 90 for club room. We were using the train and found the location great for easy access to train station. Just blocks from the Jordaan, Anne Frank House, Dam area. Up to 30-minute walk to the museum area.

The hotel has parking, but I don't know the rate. If you take a club room you get a discount on the parking, I think.

The computer did not have our reservation, but because we had a printout of the confirmation, the hotel found a room for us. We took the club level, so the room was good sized with two upholstered chairs, a bright desk lamp, in-room safe, large bath towels, and robes. The club lounge was open 7 am - 10 pm. It has one computer for free Internet access, refrigerators with wine, beer, sodas, and water, coffee machine, continental breakfast, and evening snacks of chocolates and peanuts. The hotel also has a fitness room, but we did not use it. We also didn't try the restaurants or bar.

The staff was very helpful with the missing reservation and quickly removed a charge for the minibar that was incorrect on our bill.

We jut got back from Amsterdam. First we have stayed at the Crowne Plaza. The Internet deal and the location was good, but the room was tiny and boring looking. Walls are yellow, not enough light. It was a non-smoking room on the new wing.
Then we moved to the Victoria Hotel just across Central Station. Lucky us!!! Victoria has the kindest staff and biggest rooms. We stayed in a Superior room for $140. I would go back to Victoria any time, but not to C Plaza.
Noemi

Amsterdam is very compact and easy to get around, almost any location is a good one. 2 years ago in March our family of 4 stayed in at the Estherea although I don't recall what the rate was.
