Amsterdam for a day
I have a connecting flight in Amsterdam in December and I would like to spend the day there touring and shopping. Any suggestions for things to do during the winter there? I only have one day there but I would like to make the most of it.

Take the train from the airport to downtown. Walk over to The Anne Frank House. Check out Deco Spa if you need to get cleaned up. It is an Art Deco Sauna--spa. Walk through the downtown area including the "Red Light" district. Take a 50 minute boat trip through the canals.

Excellent and frequent trains between the airport and city-cneter.
Visit Dam and kalverstraat voor shopping.
Rijksmuseum and VanGoghmuseum and/or Ann Frankhouse.
On the airport there also is a desk of the tourist office, where you can book tours.

You can see the house in 30 - 45 minutes, including the downstairs visitors' area, IF there are no lines.
The rooms are quite small, much small than we had expected. It is a very emotional experience and we couldn't just 'pop' back into the street right away.
We went the end of January a few years ago, and basically walked right in. On another trip in April, the long line was around the block. It all depends on the time of year. December should be fine.
