Amsterdam-Copenhagen
I will be cruising from Copenhagen in Aug. I would like to fly in and stop in Amsterdam first for 2 nts. (never been there)and then travel to Copenhagen to board ship. What is the best way to get between the two cities? Anyone know the travel time or distance? I would rather do a train or a bus. is this a difficult plan? comments?

I've used the over night train from Amsterdam to Kobenhavn several times in the past. It is an interesting trip but can be an ordeal. The whole train would roll on the ferry from Puttgarden to Rodbyhavn. You wake up in Denmark rather groggy.
Perhaps you can buy an air ticket to Copenhagen with a 2 night layover in Amsterdam. KLM allows similar layovers to other points in Europe. You could save a lot of time and trouble, and maybe cash. Compare prices of air w/layover to train/bus. Gosh, bus? Does one exist for these cities?
If you have time, an over night ferry from Amsterdam may be possible. I used one of those to go up to Gothenburg, Sweden years ago, and then drove around Sweden and Denmark.

Be aware that the ferry connection from Puttgarden to Rodby mentioned above takes approximately 45 minu tes on rather large, well-stabilized ferries which were designed specifically to accommodate both wheeled vehicles and railroad trains. The train, literally, rolls right onto the ferry and unless the short crossing is very very rough I doubt you'd even know you were on the boat.
During the day, trains from Amsterdam to Copenhagen may require as many as two changes, in Osnabruck as well as in Hamburg. Night services may require one change in Duisburg.
I've done them both and as much as I like train travel I suggest you look into the possibility of flying.
