Amsterdam apartments

My wife and I will be spending a week in Amsterdam in September and would like to rent an apartment. Any recommendations as to location/areas? Also price range for the week for a one bedroom with kitchen, living-room and shower/toilet.
Thanks
Mark

We rented a great one right on the Prinsengracht Canal at the corner of Runstrausse. We paid 136 euros per night. I tried to find a link, but I can't seem to get simplyAmsterdam to work right now and open up the list of apartments. That's where we found it.

I personally would choose to stay within the circle of main canals, that is central from Singel gracht.

Ah, the website must have been down. I found the one we rented -- small and compact, but surprisingly comfortable and attractive (perhaps the best shower we've had anywhere in Europe).

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the reply.
Any thoughts on house boats on the Amstel?

My family and I recently stayed on a houseboat on the Amstel and liked it. Click on my name at the top of this post and you'll find the thread, which starts with my looking for a houseboat and ends with my impressions (favorable) of the property. I routinely rent apartments when I travel, especially as a family, and like the houseboat experience as it was a bit more (but not too) exotic. The thread also lists the agency we used for the rental, and that agency also does conventional apartments.
