Amsterdam and rail questions
We are looking for accom in a district in Amsterdam for a five-day stay, broken as 3/2 days. We'd like a quiet area near trams to get us to the central attractions, perhaps walking distance to the museums. We are happy with a small, modest, economical hotel, even a B&B. One area that seems like it could be nice is The Pijp. True? Other suggestions? We enjoy walking and are happy to use the trams and trains to get to and fro.
Also, if possible, we want to go from Amsterdam to Antwerp by train, then change in Antwerp for Brugge, bypassing Brussels. Is this possible or must we go thru Brussels? We won't do the direct trip if it is a milk train and would take all day.

Hi Steve
Just had a quick look on the DB Bahn site.
It is possible to go by train to Antwerpen and then on to Bruges.
e.g. dep Amsterdam 8.46 arr 11am Antwerpen
1 change dep Antwerpen 11.18 arr 12.42 Bruges
Of course if you wanted to stop over in Antwerpen you would just catch a later train to Bruges
We are staying in Bruges in September, can't wait!

Personally, I would suggest the Owl Hotel. www.owl-hotel.nl/.
Pronounce it like Ool.
Great hotel; good value, quiet street, 2-3 minute walk from the Leidesplein, less than 10 minutes to the Museumplein and trams up the wazoo.
I've stayed in many hotels in AMS....
Now that I've found this place, I plan to stay nowhere else in AMS.
BTW: go to Sama Sebo for dinner, a great Rijsttafel restaurant. It's about 5-7 minutes from the hotel. Check out Fodor and Frommer recommendations, among others. www.samasebo.nl/

Thanks for both replies. Owl Hotel looks quite interesting and the location is very good.
Delighted to hear we can go via DB Bahn. I had not even thought of them before. Nothing against Brussels - it's just that our time is limited and we have other priorities.
