sandi_travelnut...yes, I/we do! I'm always saying "I'd do that one" (fast hands) or "You'd have to do that one" (ones to do with swimming or speed) for the detours, and for the roadblocks we ususally choose the one where we have more control of our destiny (i.e., sweat over luck) unless it's a really cool one like elephant polo or a heli ride over San Paulo!
We also pay attention to how the teams decide who will do it - sometimes the decision seems hoisted on the women partners (boo!).
Enjoy-la!

In addition to being the only ones to actually look around and appreciate their surroundings, the Hippies were also the only ones to address anyone in Russian (they used hello and thank you). They earn BIG points for that to me!!

For SF 'hippies' they seem to be in incredible shape. There the only one's I've seen run to almost everywhere and not be winded at all.
All the 'hippies' I know living in the Bay Area would have a hard time walking down Potrero Hill without having to sit down half way through and coughing up a lung.
These guys must be more fitness oriented hippies than the illegal substance hippies I've known.

Althought the Hippies were the only ones we saw using Rusian phrases, in the videos at the AR9 website, they are shown teaching Dave & Lori Russian phrases.
In the broadcast, the double Ds were shown writing down Ruusian phrases, and also sharing them with the "Boys."

My memory (which I admit isn't always accurate)....I thought the girls only found out how to say "Go fast" (or something like that) in Russian. Smart, but not quite the same as learning and offering greetings and other pleasantries in the appropriate language.

Phil's Blog gives away a little bit of the next episode, regarding the other teams coming in at the mat that doesn't finish this leg of the race.
I don't thnk this is really a spoiler, but here is a warning if you don't want to know the first few minutes of the next episode.
The teams ended up coming in very close together. Lake & Michelle were extremely excited to hear that they were in second place and then shocked to find out they had to keep going. Fran & Barry have moved up in the order, Dave & Lori have moved to the back of the pack and were extremely relieved to hear they are still in it.
