Amazing Race!

In the TV Guide (Sept 13-19) in the Jeers & Cheers - the following:
"Jeers" - to playing favorites, CBS can't seem to give The Amazing Race the respect it deserves. While the network fawns over Survivor; with endless promotions and crossover appearances, Race hadn't gotten a renewal commitment even after a finale that drew an amazing 9.88 million viewers. The Amazing Race invariably provides intelligent, compelling tests of human relationships under stress. CBS has a real winner here - why is it treated like such a big loser?
Nice to know CBS is accepting applications, but what's going on here? Is it a go or not?

Yes, that's great news that they're planning on an AR5. I was on the CBS website yesterday and saw the application forms there by chance; even e-mailed them to a couple of intrepid friends but they declined ! I'd apply in a flash but don't qualify for not being a US citizen.
I too think that this show is hugely short-changed for all that it is (and 'The Mole' was another good show that falls into this category). Unfortunately, there are too many willing to exploit and capitalize on displaying the tawdry aspects of human nature in artifical circumstances (shows such as Survivor, Big Brother, and loads of newer nonsense) to the detriment of other shows more deserving of the attention. However, lets hope that The Amazing Race wins an Emmy this Sunday and changes all of that. Go AR !

Thought this might be of interest. I'm hoping AR5 happens!

CBS begins accepting applications for 'The Amazing Race 5'
By RealityTVWorld Staff, 09/15/2003
Although a formal series renewal has yet to be announced, CBS has officially begun accepting applications for a fifth edition of "The Amazing Race." Those interested in applying had better be quick however, as the application states that applications are due Wednesday, October 8 2003 for an anticipated January 2004 taping.
Daily Variety notes that while the move is not the same thing as an official series order, it's still a very good sign for Race fans. According to Variety, CBS traditionally only lets its reality producers begin casting when there's a solid shot of a pickup or renewal, particularly when it comes to existing franchises.
The application news comes a couple of months after CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves expressed doubt as to whether a fifth edition of the Emmy-nominated series would be produced, due to the show's continuing less-than-blockbuster ratings.

My sister and I have applied for AR5. We've been wanting to be on this show since it started. The funny thing is, we just found out yesterday that the applications had been opened back up and I leave for Europe on Thursday and won't be back until after the deadline on Oct. 8. So we have to put together our application REALLY quickly last night--including shooting our video.
We'll see . . .

LOL Jennie: we are in the same boat! Just found out today (on this board, of course!) that apps are open, and we're leaving Friday for 3 weeks. I don't know whether we'll get it together (we don't own a video camera), but my sweetie and I would sure love to give it a try. Maybe we'll end up competing against you and your sister!

Re: Which 2 fodorites would you want to see in the race?
Although he's not a Fodorite (as far as I know), I'd love to see Jacques Chirac and Uncle Sam (whatever happened to him, anyway?) as a team. Just imagine the conflict!

BeachBoi : All I know is that he is a Vanderbilt and he's back reporting for CNN. No, what happend to him in Europe ? I recently read an article he'd written talking about the pain and sadness in coping with his brother's suicide.

He is Gloria Vanderbilt's son, she lives with him in Manhattan. While he was in Europe during the filing, a thief got into 2 of his bank accounts and made off with around $35K....Carter Cooper did not commit suicide...he awoke from a fitful nap following an unusually strong dose of asthmas medication...he was delirious..but he could not hold onto the railing..that was in 19988 at the age of 23..
