Amalifi Coast
Traveling to Amalfi Coast with my husband this October . I would welcome suggestions for hotels in the cities of Sorrento and Positano. Am I understanding correctly that these are centrally located and good to stay for 5 days and venture out on day trips to see the rest of the coast?

La Fenice in Positano. Right next to Sirenuse at half the price. Charming rooms, great food, a pool and incredible views. You can see a couple of photo's on the Karen Brown website. La Fenice doesn't have a website, you must call and or Fax them. They book up quickly, good luck!

Angela--
If you want to see the Amalfi Coast, then that's where you should stay, not Sorrento. Getting in/out of S. is a hassle, and then you still have a 30-45 min drive just to get to the Coast(assuming you will have a car.)
Once on the Coast, what do you want: shops, restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, or a more relaxed pace? If the former, go w. Positano. If the latter, stay away from P. and Amalfi; try Hotel Tritone near Praiano.
Will bring my earlier post on this topic to the top for you.
Enjoy!

Any hotel with Capo in its name is, of course, an excellent choice! :^)

Angela, I agree with az; if you want to spend most of your time on the Amalfi Coast itself, Positano might be a better choice. It also has a very spectacular setting but, overall, we thought Sorrento was a more interesting place, with a wonderful old town to wander around in.

I agree with Az, it's a hassle driving from Sorrento. We stayed in Positano at the Villa Franca hotel just last month and we really loved it. I know they have a website, I'm sure you could find it by searching on the name. The prices, imho, were not overly expensive. Hope this helps!

just spent 6 nights on amalfi coast for honeymoon. if money is no object, try le sirenuse in positano. prefer to san pietro because of location, subtlety. poseidon is a good 4-star alternative at 1/2 the money.

would also HIGHLY recommend the palazzo sasso in ravello. again, very expensive 5-star, but the best hotel we have ever stayed at--bar none (including le sirenuse, which is in our top 5). the best view in the world. amazing restaurant. and easy 20 minute bus ride to amalfi to use as base for day trips, etc. junior suite with ocean view at 1.1 million lira/night is a steal--seriously!
