Amalfi Coast - Getting there!?
Good morning!
I will traveling the Amalfi Coast in September and have a few transportation questions.
I will be taking the ferry from Naples to Capri (is this the best place to catch it?) and after a few days on Capri will head to my hotel in Amalfi - the Santa Caterina. Can I take a ferry from Capri right to Amalfi? Does anyone know if this is easy and reasonable?
Thanks in advance for any advice from those who have done it!

First of all, great choice of hotel! I was there last September, Such a breathtaking location hugging the cliffs full of bougainvillea and orange groves. The staff is wonderful and so is the food. I personally like being outside of the villages, and it is any easy walk downhill to Amalfi (the hotel also has a shuttle to the village).
Any way, a unique way you might consider to get to the hotel from Capri is to hire a boat. You can either arrange this at the marina in Capri, the Santa Caterina itself, your hotel in Capri may be able to help, or contact one of the websites below. The boat can take you right to the dock at the Santa Caterina, no hassling with luggage, shuttles, taxis, etc.

I believe most of these outfits would do a transfer from Capri to Santa Caterina. It will obviously be more expensive than the ferry, but also more unique.
If you use this option, you might want to call the hotel as you are leaving and let them know to expect you so they can have someone to help with luggage. Also, if you arrive after 6 pm or so, the pool area (where the dock is) is closed, so they will need to send someone down to help you.
We hired a 25-foot powerboat and pilot for the whole day when we went to Capri from the Santa Caterina. We used Amalfisails and were very happy. They picked us up in the morning and took us all around Capri to little coves and through the hole in the Farginola. We swam through the Spumanti hole as well, gorgeous water color. They also took us swimming on Sireneuse island off Positano. We had lunch in town and explore for a few hours, then went back to the boat. Had a few more swims, went to the Blue Grotto at the least crowded time, and rode back just as the sun was setting over the island a really wonderful day. You might want to do the same in reverse.
If you use the ferry, you can pick up the hotel's shuttle at the parking lot in front of the ferry. Call the hotel for the shuttle schedule, it may also be on their website. Again, you might want to call and let them know what time ferry you will be on so they will be sure to look for you and wait for you.
