That depends onwhat you want to do. There are obviously no water sports in March - and since the chances of rough water is greater there may well be reduced ferry/hydrofoil service along the coast and out to Capri. If however, you are looking for hiking and touring (Pompeii etc) its certainly possible - as long as you have appropriate clothes for cool nights. You will definitely not run into the kind of crowds you see in late spring, summer and fall.

Montrealvic, I know you are not asking me,but I believe that it is really up to you and what your priorities are... if you have the same interest for all of the places on the Amalfi coast and surrounding, and you'd have to choose only on the basis of "this time of year", then I would visit Pompei. Better to visit it now or in spring rather than in summer when it's very hot and you walk under the sun in a busy site with very little shade.

Hi mont,

If you gave us your whole itinerary, we could help you better.

You can bus to Mt. Vesuvius (to be at the mouth of the crater) from Pompei. If you are not into ruins, volcanoes, simply do a trip by bus along the coast for some good scenery.

My best friend is going to Sorrento for a week at the end of March and she definitely thinks it's a good time to go. My parents have been there also at that time of year and have no complaints, either. Obviously you are not going to get any swimming in, but on the other hand, you're not going to be fighting the crowds that will be there in the summer.

Like everyone has said, it depends on what you're interested in.

we would be most intrested in the scenery. so a drive from sorrento to pompei would be good. also how long would this drive take by bus, and can we go from pompei to capri. is it worth going to capri. can we do all this in one day. if we are out by 8am from naples.

hi, the only thing to be aware of is that Easter is early this year (late March) and the Sorrento peninsula can be gridlocked at that time. We were there last year aound Easter and could not even stop in Amalfi - it was so full that the police were making people drive on and not allowing them to stop. Capri felt as though it would sink under the weight of everyone there!
Just check your dates - if you are not actually there for Easter weekend, it should be fine. The weather was very damp though.

March 25th is actually Good Friday.

If you are starting from Naples you can get a hydrofoil from there to Capri. I think you'd be mad to attempt both Capri and Pompei in one day. Capri would be better visited in summer and for more than one day - there are some nice walks once you get away from the hordes of daytrippers.

I was there for Easter last year. I passed through Amalfi on Easter Sunday on a bus on my way to Ravello. I was a little crowded, but not bad.
