Alsace

Planning a trip to Alsace in October. Plan is to see our grandmothers home towns of Mulhouse and Than. Obernai, Riquewihr, Strasbourg etc.
What would be the best airport? De Gaule or Munich or Frankfurt? Train from airport to Strasburg, rent a car there? I would love some ideas. Thank you.

Perhaps it might help if you revealed from where you are coming?

Frankfurt Airport would be the closest by rail but i'd go for the one with the cheapest price if it is a significant difference. Why not rent the car at the airport?

Assuming that you are flying from another continent, many of the fares include a connecting domestic flight to a final destination. I would look into flights to Basel-Mulhouse (the airport is actually in France), Strasbourg, CDG or Frankfurt to compare the fares. You could also fly into one airport and out of a different one. NOTE: You will want to rent a car in the same country where you will drop it off, to avoid the outrageous international drop-off charges.

Hi H,

From whence will you depart?
eg, if you are taking Delta from ATL, you might want to fly into Stuttgart or Paris and train to Strasbourg, depending on the fare.

Zurich Airport would also be within a few hours train ride.

For Boston-Mulhouse, one site I checked routed the trip through Amsterdam with either a KLM or a Delta flight number.
