Alpe di Siusi - Hiking - Late October?

Is it possible to hike in the last two weeks of October in Alpe de Siusi. I understand the cableway to Compatsch is operating until 3 November. Will it be too cold? Will any of the other lifts in the area be operating?

You'll be there during shoulder season - peak hiking time has passed and it's not quite ski season. Many people in the tourist industry take off during this time so some of inns, restaurants, cafes, and lifts will be closed. It will also be less crowded.

I suggest some pre-planning so you don't get stuck somewhere. Select some hiking routes and check online to see if the lifts you want will be operating.

Too cold? That all depends on you. You will certainly need layers and should be prepared for below freezing temperatures while you're on the trails.

Have fun.

Hi,

We stayed in the Val Gardena in mid October '03 and the Alta Badia mid October '06. We had no trouble finding a place to stay, open restaurants, etc. Everything may be a bit more limited at this time of year, but still doable. We did only stay 4 nights each trip. There may not be enough "variety" of lifts and hiking options for 2 full weeks. Just an opinion from a non hiker. Most of the lifts will be closed, but a couple still operate into late October/beginning of November. Simply plan accordingly.

These sites may be of help:
