Some segment of the Italian airline industry is probably striking. They strike pretty frequently, at least by American standards (traffic controllers, attendants, pilots, etc). When I was there in early 2004, our flight home on Alitalia was delayed 6-8 hours because of a controllers' strike, which of course totally screwed up the connecting flight in the States and getting me back home a day late. At least you've gotten advance notice.

Hi monicainindy, when the traffic controllers in Italy strike ALL flights in and out of Italy are delayed until the strike is over so one can be stuck at an airport for hours and hours. Just trying to make you feel better LOL, at least you will have a pleasant time in Boston hopefully rather then a miserable time hanging around an airport in Europe. Have a beautiful time in Italy!

Loveitaly - thank you!
I already looked into Trenitalia trains from Milan to Rome just in case!
Does anyone know how far the train station is from the airport? We get in at 7:20 and there are several trains from Milan to Rome that morning.

Thank travelphile... in this case, there's nothing else we can do, but we learned our lesson about who to fly with the next time.
Still can't believe no one else in this forum ran into the same problem. I know there were several of us going this weekend.
