Algarve Casino Hotel..Good or bad location?

Looking to go to the Algarve in May, and thinking about going to the Algarve Casino Hotel. My concern is the location...is it near to Portimao, (cab ride?) or is it right in Praia da Rocha (which I understand is horrid) We would like to be able to go out and eat easily at night time - like good restaurants but do not really wish to travel too far out.

There is a casino in Vilamoura, which is an upscale town east of Albufeira. It seems likely that this hotel would be there.

I googled Algarve hotels and found that it is in Praia da Rocha. That is not my idea of where to stay in the Algarve. Go to Vilamoura as I suggested earlier.

Cool, I am going to visit that city, any idea of the casino there? And is it allowed to gamble there? I have not ever played in a casino, what’s the requirement on dressing? Thanks!

Algarve Casino Hotel is in the heart of Praia da Rocha. blech! They do host some great shows, but I would not recommend staying in that area. If you are staying 1 week in the Algarve, I would recommend renting a villa instead.

Just wondering what happened to Praia da Rocha -- when we were there in 1980 (admittedly a very long time ago), it was just a nice beach with big rocks and absolutely zero development.

dmlove,
Unrestrained development...and it is still happening.

Corruption and a me first attitude are ruining the treasure that should be for all of the Portuguese people.
