Aix en Provence Hotel - These?

I will be in Aix with my wife in early June 2012.

I have narrowed down the choice of hotels and am looking for recent experiences. I could also consider others.

Hotel des Augustins
Hotel Artea
Hotel la Rotonde
Le Manoir (excluded due to no A/C)
Hotel du Globe
St Christophe (excluded no availability)

Thanks in advance

I stayed at the Manoir in a summer one year and I didn't need AC. They have a car park but breakfast in the cloisters was blah.

I have no experience with the hotels on your list, but we liked the Hotel Cardinal, which is a few block off the Cours Mirabeau. Last year (Oct.) we stayed in the annex and had a suite for I think about 110-120 euros -- it was a large room with a bed on one side and a living area surrounding a fireplace (sofa, coffee table and a couple chairs), a separate room had a kitchenette and dining area. The bathroom was very nicely done with modern fixtures (not huge, but a comfortable size). Furnishings were traditional. Staying in the annex, we didn't interact with the hotel staff much, but when we did they were very friendly and helpful.

Walked by Hotel des Augustins and it looked nice. Stayed at Hotel Saint Christophe. Nice place and less expensive than Hotel des Augustins. Too bad its not available.

I stayed at Hotel Saint Christophe in May,2010.
What bad luck it is unavailable.
It is the best.
It is a classic.
If you can't stay you must try the Brasserie of the hotel.
Magnificent!

I am not familiar with the above hotels either. Did you choose them for their locations/prices?

DH and I loved Aqua Bella in 2008. On-site restaurant, spa, naturally-heated pool, nearby parking/bus, easy walk to restaurants and computer made it great for us.

It is just north of a wonderful square that is a market in the a.m. and cafe in the evening! An easy walk to most places in town.

TDudette,

I made up the list above based on location, price, features (A/C, bathroom, etc) and other poster's comments.

I have since added Hotel Cardinal and eliminated all other but Hotel des Augustins.

Any more comments between these two other than Cardinal is less expensive?

Thanks.

Myer, I just looked at the locations of the two hotels you mention above. IMHO, Hotel des Augustins is better located for the Centre. Rue des Cordeliers (spelling?) is just a couple of streets away and the area around there was great to come "home" to at the end of the day.

Will you have a car? We usually took bus or cab to the bus stop from Aqua Bella. If I remember correctly, Augustins is closer to bus depot but Cardinal closer to train. We never used the train station-busses were cheap and easy.

We will not have a car.

We'll be arriving from Marseilles airport so probably at the bus station.

Then leaving to Avignon so probably a combination of bus/TGV/bus.

Thanks.

Check out the reviews of Pavillion de la Torse on Trip Advisor. We stayed here in 2009 and loved it.
