our proposed flight from Rome leaves at 7 am....can we get a taxi in Rome to the airport at 4:30 in the morning. Thank you for any info.

Not sure I understand... are you thinking that cabs aren't on the road at 4:30?
I've taken cabs at that time of day many times in many European cities. Can't think why Rome would be different.
I'm sure your hotel could arrange for one to pick you up.

The evening before you depart, have your hotel arrange a taxi p/u at 4:30 AM.

Sure you can. Unfortunately our return flights are always at the crack of dawn and we've never had a problem getting transportation. We either arrange with a driver we use toward the end of our stay to pick us up, or better yet have the hotel make the arrangements for you. Also at that time of the morning traffic is nil, which allows you to get to the airport quicker. The only advantage I can think of!
