I know this doesn't answer you question but on all of trips we simply walk outside of the airport to the FO taxi kiosk and tell the person where we want to go. She gives us a voucher which we give to the next cab driver and we are off. The taxi is metered so it's hard to say how much the trip will cost but from the airport to a hotel on the Pest side is usually $25.oo US. And the drivers have credit card readers so you don't have to worry about changing your money to forints for the fare.

We used Shuttlebudapest last September and found them very good . This was travel between our apartment and the airport . We booked online but paid the driver- not sure if this was only option or our choice as we booked only 24 hours before. 24€ ( or 7500 forints approx)
You could pay in either euros or forints- we chose the latter purely to use the forints we had.
This was much better value that taxi booked through our accommodation provider. Driver charged upwards of 6500 forints for Budapest h e train station to apartment. While still cheaper than taxis at home it seemed significant more than what was quoted when booking.

One of the most recommended taxi companies in Budapest, I assume, still.. I used them a few years ago.
