Bud Airport Transfer

Hi Maggot,
I was wondering the same thing. We were in Budapest in 2006 and used a taxi (for 2 of us) to the Hilton in Buda.
However, according to Rick Steves:
1) Best bet for 2 is a taxi
2) An inexpensive alternative is the MINIBUS to any hotel in the city center. Minibus desk at arrival lobby
3) Cheapest is a public bus to Kobanya-Kispest M3 Metro station - to the center (about 1 hour)
We used taxi in 2006 because we were going further than the city center ie. to Buda.
Now my question, if someone can help:
We will be flying from Zagreb to Brussels in May via Budapest.
Our stopover in Budapest is from 11:40 a.m until departure at 5:35 p.m.
Are we silly to consider a trip into Budapest for the short 3 hours (or less) given we have been there and also the cost time and hassle of the transfers??
Any other options near the airport to spend the "layover time"?

Last year, Fodorite 111op spent 3.5 hours in Budapest (as a 6hf layover), you can see what he did and the actual logistics:

We had planned to take a Zona taxi but when we got to their kiosk in the arrival hall there was no one there. Right next to the Zona taxi booth was the airport shuttle bus booth so we took that. It worked out great and we had only one other stop before our hotel that was located in the city center. Price was very reasonable but I can't remember exactly what it was.

Thanks to all who responded. We are leaving this morning and its great to have the feedback. Arriving at Airports and getting to the Hotel can be very stressful but your responses have helped enormously.
many thanks
