Airport Taxi or Pre-Arranged Transfer to City Center

Any advice on how to get to the city center from the airport? The hotel would charge a bundle and I see several companies that offer fixed price transfers but don't know which, if any, are reliable.

this is the company I have used several times, run by an American ex-pat and his Czech wife,I can highly reccommend them.
Depeding where your horel is you can use either the Airport express bus ot the local bus to Zilcin and get the Metro from there.
Let me know where you are staying and i can try and advise.

you will be fine with them,I am in fairly regular contact with the onwner through another ytravelwebsite, but he does come on here now and again and posts.
Just got back from Prague yesterday after a couple of nights there. The Goilden well is in a good location and you will be able to walk to the majority of the sights from there.

unless you are on a strict budget or just carrying a weekend bag then i would suggest you bite the bullet and pay for an airport transfer,at 550czk it really is a good price.
You can take the AE bus to Hlavni ,then travel down a few levels(at least 3) to the metro, take the metro one stop to Muzeum, change for the Red Line C metro to the Green Line A metro to Malotranska then walk the couple of hundred yards uphill to the hotel.

just thinking now that i have been fed, the airport bus stops at Dejvicka, you could get og there and take the Greenline metro 2 stops to Malostranska and walk from there.
You would have to pay 50czk for the aiport bus but could get a 18czk ticket for the metro from Dejvicka,if you have any large luggage you would also need to get a ticket for that as well at 13czk per item

Hi; I think unclegus is right. Take the shuttle. For us, we got off the bus close to the old town and walked to our hotel. For your hotel, it doesn't sound easy.

I was in Prague over the weekend ,just got home a 9.30 last night (i visit once or twice a year)as i only had a small weekend bag i took the 100 bus to Zilcin and then the metro to Hlavni,I would have used the AE bus but had just missd one.i was meeting a friend at Hlavni to go for lunch, later on I headed to my hotel near Pankrac metro.on sunday i used the AE bus to get back to the airport,I was travelling on my own with a small weekend bag so it was easy for me to do that ,plus i know Prague pretty well and am used to the trams ,buses and metro systems.if i am travelling with a small group or with a friend as i did on my visit in may i use airport shuttle services which makes life a great deal easier for a very reasonable cost.

It sounds like an airport shuttle is preferred over an airport taxi. I have a bit of luggage so a bus/tram would not be easy. Also I understand that the hotel is up a hill.

yep it is up a hill.I passed nearby on Sunday,it is actually almost underneath the castle walls.A great area to stay as I said before but lugging luggage up that hill is not soemthing I would recommend.
If booking Prague -Airport-Shuttle make sure you click on the confirmation email, but if you do have any problems let me know and I can try and help.

I'll be staying in Holiday Inn Congress Centre in October. What's your recommendation. I'd like to take bus but the hotel seems to be away from any metro.

if this is the right place ,just take the bus to Hlavni and then the metro from there to Vyshrad, the congress centre is just a chort walk away.

Yes, this is it. But I'm carrying the luggage that is more than a weekend bag. It's on the wheels, though. Any stairs to climb?

I don't know,I have been to the Corinthia Towers at the other side of the metro station ,not sure about that side. There will be escalators in the metro so that should be ok.if there are steps i doubt there will be too many.

We used www.prague-airport-shuttle.com a couple of weeks ago and they were fantastic. Picked us up at the Grand Bohemia Hotel and took us to the airport. They were actually a few minutes early. Excellent price and so easy, The drive passed quickly b/c the American driver was telling us so many interesting things about Prague, the people etc. Don't mix them up with the very similar sounding company that ends in .uk rather than .com. the .UK stops at several hotels on the way whereas this one is direct.

Peggy, the CO.UK which sounds similar does not stop by other hotels unless you take a shared transfer. Btw. probably the only company offering the shared transfers is CEDAZ ... and then the price is much lower .
Btw. the fair price of a taxi from APT to Golden Well is about 400 CZK. And you can get more info in the AAA Taxi Praha office at the airport.

CEDAZ no longer provides shared shuttles, not since the airport taxis went to the meter - they are still good value but comparable to the private transfers/taxis

We just returned from our trip, I will make an attempt at a trip report soon but wanted to comment here. We used www.prague-airport-shuttle.com and I can not recommend them enough. Reservations were easy, email confirmation was received quickly and we were provided with all the info we needed to meet our driver Mike when we landed. Mike was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The car was spotless and easily held our 4 cases and 2 small totes. The trip into Prague was quick, Mike pointed out sites, offered helpful tips, and cheerfully answered our questions. Our return trip to the airport at the end of our stay was also perfect – our driver arrived a few minutes early and expertly drove through Prague and got us to the airport in plenty of time. Prague Airport Service is a first-class act, very dependable and I wouldn't think of getting from the airport to Prague any other way. 4 stars!
