Airport layover
We get in at 7:30am and our flight to London leaves at 2pm. We thought we'd just walk the streets of Amsterdam (we have visited before). Is there a small town we could visit that is close to the airport instead?
We have too much time to stay at the airport but not enough time to do too much. I'm stumped!!

Not very small but my favorite is Haarlem. Take Connexxion bus #300 from Schiphol Plaza to the Haarlem station. Use a Strippenkaart. It takes 7 or 8 strips. Buses take about 45 minutes and run every 10 minutes.
Walk south to the Grote Markt and amble about.
For return to Schiphol catch the #300 in front of the V+D on Gedempteoudegracht, south of the Grote Markt.
Buy your Strippenkaart at the VVV tourist office in Schiphol. It costs about €7 for 15 strips.

Where are you arriving from? If you're on a flight from the US or Canada, you're going to be tired and sleepy.
You're going to pass through the Immigration, if you're from North America.
Also, what luggage are you going to be carrying?
Give us an idea of where you're coming and how much luggage are you carrying.

My impression is that Leiden might be slightly easier than Haarlem, as the train journey from the airport is maybe about 10-15 minutes, instead of the 45 mentioned for Haarlem. Leiden is very small and walkable too. I think you have enough time to go and do something.

Hi cindy, here is the website for the Schiphol Airport. At the very top right hand of the screen you can click on for the English version. Perhaps this website will be of some help to you.
