Airfare to Turkey From San Francisco

Hello,
I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Turkey late summer/early fall 2009. The best prices I can find for San Francisco - Istanbul are about $1100 roundtrip for a one stop flight.

Does this seem to be about right? I don't want to make a purchase until I have an idea of what is a fair price, and I have only been looking for around 2 weeks.

Suggestions/advice/thoughts welcome!!

Thank you!

We did it cheaper by going RT to Paris, the TGV to Basel and EasyJet RT to Istanbul, but it is not that much cheaper to be worth the trouble. Click on my name for my trip report to Turkey which gives some details about getting there.

I think mostly Delta, American airlines, US Airway, and Turkish airlines fly to Istanbul from the US...

also you can try Lufthansa , British airways, or any of the other major airlines..

try Expedia or any of the other low cost search engines for flights

http://www.expedia.com/

We flew recently from Istanbul to Miami..with British airlines..for about 2500 euros for 4 persons..

Originally when we started to look these same flights were just under 2000 euros but in a matter of months they went up and then back down again..originally we found flights with Alitalia but with the problems they had over the months of Sept,Oct and Nov..we booked with British airways to be safe..and by then not much price difference..maybe 100 or 200 euros for 4 if that..

We recently flew on Swiss International, Boston to Istanbul. They had the lowest fares. They connect in Zurich. Check them out.

Thanks everyone for the tips and help! Kayak.com looks like it has best prices so far, $920 RT including taxes.

THanks!
