Airfare to Italy in Oct. '07...when to book?

Can anyone give us advice when we should book our air (into Venice 10/10, out of Florence 10/26) from Los Angeles? We're (obiviously) looking for the best fares/availability...are there any hot tips out there?

Grazie!

Hi A,

Airfares change daily.

Follow www.kayak.com and www.mobissimo.com for about a month.

That will give you a good feel for what a bargain will look like.

I don't think you should wait beyond the end of May.

There are some very good fares out there right now. I will tell you that there are much fewer nonstops into Venice so if that is what you prefer, book sooner rather than later. The seat map for my ATL-VCE flight shows half the seats assigned while the return from Rome is about 20% full.

Thank you both for your advice. I will do what you recommend. I knew I came to the right place.

I wholly endorse the advice from ira and kfusto. Bite the bullet and book now, or soon. Sure, fares might move down a little bit, but they might not. And the closer you get to the trip, the fewer flight options you'll have.

And remember... saving $35 on your fare by routing through 2 extra airports might sound find right now, 8 months ahead of time, but when you're travelling you will wish you would have gone for the simplest possible routing.

My point is that even though fares might be good through the summer, your routing options will gradually get thinner week-by-week.
