Airfare to Italy

I'm in the early stages of planning a 2 week trip to Italy for August. I would like to fly into Milan or Venice and out of Rome. Does anyone have any good ideas about finding airfare deals? I was hoping to get something around $1000 per person. Thanks!

The last two weeks of August will probably be a lot cheaper than the first two. I have seen some amazing deals show up after the 14-15th over the years.

Right now everything is still high - you could probably find about $1100-1200 on Swiss, through Zürich right now.

I expect there will be some sort of a seat sale late this winter or early spring, but it is hard to tell how far things might fall. Lower fuel prices and falling demand because of the economy suggest some decreases would be in order, but prices are holding so far.

Try using Farecast.com and signing up for their notifications. The site is far from perfect and quite often you can't find real life fares they indicate are posted, but it is an early warning signal of sales, at the least.

It's a terrible game to have to play......

don't know about airfares, but Italy will be very hot and very crowded in August. Be sure to take that into account when you plan where to go and stay

Yes, Kayak has a few offerings below $1,000. Also, Aer Lingus. Other than that airfares seem to be above $1,2000 now. Wonder if those too will fall, as most items have recently.
