airfare to italy

Six months to go and the flights are still 925.00 and higher! Am I going to be able to get a lower fare? Take out your crystal balls please.

Hang in there Robbiegirl. I didn't find a cheap fare to Italy for our trip last September until May, and I had been looking since January. Check every day and scour the internet and you will come up with something.

If you are talking about traveling in October I would think you might get a lower fare...HOWEVER, since you haven't said where you are traveling FROM it is a little hard to tell for certain.
Don't forget that fares are based as much as anything on competition on a particular route (or as the airline folks call it, "the market&quot and not on distance traveled. Also, the volume of travel will make a difference and that would seem to make October a much better prospect than, say, August or September at least from the US.
Our "crystal balls" will remain quite cloudy until you clear up the origination issue.

You have plenty of time robbiegirl..Anything can happens in 6 months..Fares go up and down..Keep looking late at night and early morning
.
If you plan to leave in October, you may find something cheaper, because in the travel industry , after the 15 is considered death season and the price should go lower..
In bocca al Lupo..

Hi robbiegirl,

I paid $925 for a flight LAX to Florence (12/19/03)with return Rome to LAX on 1/03/04. I couldn't leave and return any other days.

I bought in July, 2003 as the stress of waiting became unbearable.

Good luck,

==Mike

I have been looking for September fares as well. This is from Des Moines (Iowa) to Venice. I have also been seeing fares around the vicinity of $950. They are not much cheaper from Minneapolis either which is Northwest's Hub!!! Could some advice me on what typical fall (september) fares are?

Thanks!!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but here's an article on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TRAVEL/ADVIS...les/index.html

Take it or leave it, but airfare doesn't seem to be doing much right now. Good luck to all who are looking!

Hi roobiegirl,

We are traveling to Tuscany in early september from Boston and we did a ton of research on flights and finally found a website that has the best prices by far. We we able to get roundtrip airfare including taxes for $630 from airtravel.net. I checked the site for your dates and itinerary and it looks like they have flights available for $711 including taxes. It says it is on a Major British Carrier and I am sure it is British Airways. That is what it said when we searched for our flight and after booking it was confirmed as BA.

Any ways, hope this helps and have a great trip!

I got round trip tickets from San Francisco to Italy (flying into Venice and out of Milan) for $611 from onetravel.com. I bought the tickets in October 2003 for a trip coming up in May 2004.

Good luck!

We've had good luck with Gotoday.com and recently I discovered http://www.France.com for airfares. I thought it was just for trips to France, but they have flights all over Europe. We just got LAX to NCE for $592 and that's a pretty good price. When you log onto the web site, there is a tiny box over on the right with an airplane icon and airfares. Click and search. I know the site is okay because we've gotten hotels from them for years and never had a problem.

Keep looking at all of them and check a couple times a day if you can. I did a search on Continental's web site and three searches brought up three different sets of flights (and prices) with the exact same information input. The third search got me the lowest price. I have no idea why this happened but 'tis true.

I checked onetravel who had a fare for 792.00 and then airtravel.net was not any less expensive really than the airlines directly. NWA was the most expensive at 934.00.
I will keep checking. The airfare is the only thing left to book now.

robbiegirl.

Are you sure about airtravel.net? I just checked again and was able to get a round trip flight including all taxes from Miami to Venice, leaving Oct 18 and returnig on Oct 29 for $711 per ticket. I have found the rates on this site consistently lower than any other, especially the airlines directly. Please give it another shot!

I'm checking similar routes robbiegirl, but Tampa to Rome, then Venice back to Tampa, leaving Dec 17 and returning the 30th.

I just began this quest today, and had only looked at Orbitz and Expedia. Orbitz has a $938 fare, going through Atlanta with reasonable connecting times.

After reading this thread I checked onetravel.com and they had a couple hundred lower, but the fare was only valid 12-16 through 12-24. Onetravel.com had the Delta route for 932.

What with fuel prices soaring, my concern is that fares will go no where but up, and I'm wondering if we should wait?

Sorry, airtravel.net had the fare for a couple hundred lower, not onetravel.

You can get a $700ish flight from British but you must be willing to make the LHR transfer to Gatwick going both directions. I think that Swiss also has some good fares at the moment.

We just booked JFK to Milan for the first week of September for $463 pp on NWA/KLM. The sale only lasted a few days though.
