Airfare to France

We are a couple going to Provence in April 2008. Should we buy air tickets now to Nice for $1,145 each inc taxes or wait until closer to departure?
What is a good April airfare to Nice? Or nearby...

I'm looking at fying to Istanbul (I know, what's the link...) Well, as part of my research., I've been looking at companies like Easyjet and Ryan Air, who offer really cheap flights from England. So...see if there is a combo of airfar to London, then a cheap flight from there on one of the above. Note that you will probably have to transfer to another airport. There are similar companies from Paris.

Other alternative, fly to CDG, then take TGV to south of France. You can get some good deals on PREM tickets.

Thank you Mike.
I have researched your ideas. From LA, London is about the same price at this time to fly to. We have successfully done the Ryanair thing in the past. It seems flying to Nice is just as cheap as flying to Paris, so we may as well go to Nice.

I don't see in your original post where you prefer to fly from. No one can really comment on if that is a good price if they don't know your airport of origination. Your second post mentions LA. Is that your preferred airport?

April is a shoulder season and you should be able to get good fares three months out but no one will be able to say that for sure.

I fly from Indianapolis and even for my peak season of June-July of this year I could have flown to Nice for less than you're quoting.

I found is significantly cheaper to do a multi city ticket for my upcoming trip to France. I'm flying to Brussels, taking the TGV to the south of France then flying home out of Paris. You've got so much advanced notice of your dates that I would keep playing with it for awhile.

Check Farecompare.com. It will give you a reasonable idea about what to expect for April airfares out of LA. Other than that, it's very hard to predict which way the airfare will go, even in shoulder season. If the price is close to what you're seeing on search engines, I'd buy it now, and start the fun part- planning the trip!
