what airlines fly from paris to florence or nearby airport? i heard pisa is better to fly in? how long is the flight, and how much should it cost? going in july.

The only discount airline I could locate is Volare but they don't fly directly into Florence or Pisa. Airports they do fly to are Milan (324 km, driving) and Bologna (106 km).

Flew on AA once, JFK to CDG, and then Meridiana to Florence. Was part of our ticket. Transfer to Meridiana terminal involved short bus ride, but all was smooth.

Alitalia and Air France code share on this routing. It's likely that whatever you select, the chances of getting the other airline's equipment are 50-50. Florence's airport is just a few minutes out of town, so if Florence is your destination, it's a much easier trip than flying to Pisa and taking some sort of public transportation into Florence.

One way tickets are prohibitive. Last year I was quoted over $500. The better way to do it is to buy a round trip and "forget" to catch the return flight. Airlines frown on this, but there's not much they can do if the flight you actually want is the outward leg.

Meridiana doesn't fly from Paris to Florence anymore. Unless you're flying round trip and can snag a cheap excursion fare to Florence or Pisa on Air France or Alitalia, your best bet is indeed to fly to Bologna airport on Volareweb. From there it's a short cab or bus ride to the station, then train to Florence (1 hr 15 min). Flights on this new route will begin on July 4.

However there is a chance that you would miss the last train from Bologna to Florence, which leaves at 22:46, since the flight is scheduled to land at 21:00. Perhaps you could spend your first night in Bologna, which is supposed to be a great place in its own right.

Another option would be to take the morning flights on Volareweb to
a)Rome, train to Florence (change at Rome Termini) in about 2hrs 30 min.

b)Venice, bus to Mestre station (20 min.) and direct train to Florence (2hrs 40 min).

I would avoid flying into Milan as it's a pain to get from either Malpensa or Linate airports to the train station.

While agree that Milan is about the fourth choice for this, I don't recall that the cheap bus service (less than 6 or 8 euro?) from Linate to Milano Centrale was a hassle at all, nor particularly slow.
