Air or train from Civitavecchia to Munich
We arrive Aug. 31 from a cruise and want to go from Civitavecchia to Munich, we prefer to drive via back roads through small towns but the drop off fee is outrageous so thought perhaps we should fly or take the train instead. Anyone with any ideas on how to best approach this idea will be appreciated. We have no idea what airlines fly between Italy and Germany and whether some of the "cheap" airlines would be the way to go and just rent the car in Munich and do the back roads some other trip. Thank you.

Hi S,
It is at least 12 hr by train.
I suggest taking a cab to Civitavecchia Centrale, the train to Rome, the train to Rome FCO and flying to Munich.
See www.whichbudget.com or www.alitalia.com
You could also hire a driver to take you to the Rome airport.
