I recently took Air France from Paris to Washington DC Dulles. It was a 777 and the coach section was very tight (worse than Delta) and the food selection was horrible.. Didnt have a good movie selection either.. The only decent thing about the flight was that when it came time to eat, they woke everyone up so that the seats were returned to the original position and not smack in front of your face..

I flew Lufthansa, first class by some stroke of fortune, from Paris to Munich. If that was first class, I fear what cattle class would be. It probably would be as bad as Air France's B777s which is, as the above writer noted, worse than Delta's.
I might add that the worst I ever experienced was a Delta flight from Atlanta to Paris on an Md-11. It was the deep pits, more in the pits than the B777 I flew once from Atlanta to Paris, which was bad enough.
The flight times on AF and Lufthansa might be convenient, but I suggest you grow short and thin before flying either airline.
At 6 feet, 180, I find those seats horrible. I wonder what a guy 6 feet, 3 inches and 220 would do?
Suffer!!??
He would need a greased shoe horn to be put in his seat.
And don't forget the Pepto and the Tums.
Don't eat the food, just the Pepto.
Nothing like a Snickers bar!!

Thanks for the replies.
This is along the lines of what I have heard previously.
I have decied to stick with
British Airways, which the children and I enjoyed as much as one can enjoy flying economy class.
Bob,
I can understand as
my ex is 6"4" and 210 lbs
and my son who is just 16 and over 6'.
Flying is not too pleasnat for either of them!

when u fly within europe, Iwould prefer to choose air france for nice comfort and food. on lonhaul flights I would choose between united and lufthansa , because the rows and seats in economy are a bit small as on lufthansa flights as french people use to be a bitsmaller.

I flew Lufthansa few weeks ago first class( freq flyer awards) and it was incredible. THat was for a flight from Frankfurt to the states. The seats were sleaper seats, 3 flight attendants for 16 passengers and 10 different kinds of wines. check out this link for a look at first class.

We flew Business between Germany and Italy on Lufthansa and that was a joke. The whole plane was 3&3 seating. The only difference was that business class had empty middle seats.

According to "www.airlinequality.com" Air France is rated as 3 star and Lufthansa is rated as 4 star. These ratings are based on evaluations by hundreds of travelers and proffesional evaluators using specific though perhaps somewhat subjective criteria. Every flight is a crap-shoot. I have had bad experiences on high ranked airlines and wonderful flights on low ranked ones. I find most trans-atlantic carriers pretty much the same and to me the most imprortant considerations are seat pitch and aircraft type rather than carrier. Have a pleasant flight.

I've flown on both airlines (cattle class) and I'd say Lufthansa is the better one from my experience. Our AF plane was an old 747, seat had no back support, no leg room to speak of, and horrible food.
I read many negative things about Lufthansa here but was really surprised at the service, more leg room than AF, nice, new planes, and edible food.

Mark, you must have flown first class. On Lufthansa last year back in "cattle car," they served screw-cap jug wine 1.5 litre bottles. The wine was far from excellent, and so was the food.
I'll eat almost anything, but on a flight from Frankfurt to Newark, they served a vegetarian dish that was horrible (we were way in the back of the bus, and they ran out of turkey).

Let me say one thing in defense of Air France, which is difficult.
A flight we took once from Vienna to CDG was on an Airbus, A320 as I recall.
The design of the seats on the Airbus were such that I could extend my toes a little. About 2 extra inches of leg space.
I think my chief recall of Air France was a never to be forgotten mad scramble from Hall B to C with 28 minutes between landing and departure times. No assistance, no reassurance that the flight would be held for us, or anything. We were directed to the bus and waited forever. I learned the following year that had we known the airport, we could have walked far faster than we rode. Halls A, B, C and D are like a big figure 8 with a connecting passageway downstairs through a shopping area.
Now that E and F are used more for international flights, I suppose that is useless information. I hope it is for two reasons: (1) I never arrive at T2 again and (2) I never fly out of CDG again. Ah, make that 4 reasons. I hope I never fly into or oout of T1 again, also.

I vote Luftansa and will never again fly Air France if I can help it. The staff on Luftansa was very friendly and helpful. The Air France staff was rude. Also, Air France served fish on the flight (which I normally love) but the smell of fish in a cooped up airplane cabin was too much for me! After spending literally 6 hours in and out of the bathroom (good thing we were seated close) our flight attendant (who was sitting in front of us) looked back and smiled and said, Oh, weren't you feeling well? Why didn't you say something? UGH!!!!

I am not a frequent flyer on either, preferring BA as I live in Britain.
I would always choose Lufthansa over Air France.
I sympathise with the poster who flew Atlanta to CDG. I have done that trip several times on both Air France and Delta and that flight is a nightmare. Much worse than flying Varig, Asiana, Thai Airlines, Eva and Lot on much longer routes.
And Delta and Air France are supposed to be decent airlines! Can't say Delta's food is any better than Air France's. It is always disgusting on both.

I haven't flown Air France recently but a couple of weeks ago we flew Lufthansa SFO-Munich, and Vienna to Frankfurt, Business Class on miles. The flights were on time and the service and food were really very good...however, so much of it comes down to the age and confirguration of the aircraft. The transatlantic flight on Lufthansa was not nearly as good as our return flight Frankfurt-SFO on United...the seats were larger and although the food and wine was not as good the service was very attentive and the entertainment choices were far better. AT least on the plane we took Lufthansa even in business didn't offer a choice of film just one film shown after another...surprising! If you want to get details on the specific age or configurations of the aircraft and very informed opinions try flyertalk.com
Hope it helps!
