Hi Fodorites!
I bought some DVD walking tours for a reasonable price on the internet. I just watched the one in Rome and it was fun. I think you can use them as backdrops to fool yourself (while you are walking in place in your den) into thinking you are walking the various sections of Rome on a early morning stroll. They also offer English countryside, Appian Way and Venice walks and some others.
Tonight I am going to watch the Appian way as I eat dinner. Hey, it is better than nothing!
I got mine here:

Happy pretend strolling, all!

Hi Sea Urchin,
Thanks for the suggestion. What a great idea for gifts! I am taking around 30 people to Italy in two years to celebrate my 50th, and I am making gift baskets to send out one year in advance to get people excited and ready for the trip, and this would be a great thing to add to the basket of goodies!

I have the Visions of Italy DVD's. It's a slow low-flying aerial tour of northern Italy, southern Italy and Sicily. The Visions series has DVD's of several countries and is available on Amazon.
I will have to checkout the walking tour. Sounds cool!

I read this at 3PM yesterday. I went to the site and ordered it through my Pay Pal account. It was in this morning's mail, and I have already "walked" through Venice after lunch today! That was service. Plus, I did not have to pay any shipping!!

SeaUrchin - I ordered the Rome, Venice, and Appian Way videos on ebay this weekend. They should be here tomorrow. Mine are from a company called Vita Productions. Their e-mail said they are making new videos for Murano, Burano. Amalfi, Pompeii, Capri and Viterbo.
