Agrigento Daytrip from Palermo

Agrigento and its splendid Greek Temples and Archeological Museum (with the Temple of Concordia being perhaps the most beautiful on earth), is well worth a dedicated overnight (or longer) visit for anyone travelling to Sicily.

Nevertheless, many tourists don't have the luxury of time for an overnight trip, yet wish to see the Temples and the Museum as a daytrip out of Palermo. Fortunately, this is eminently possible, either by train or by bus.

Here are some pointers:

1. During the summer heat, many travellers want to get an "early morning start". Cuffaro bus lines has a bus departing Palermo Monday through Saturday at 5:45, arrving in Agrigento two hours later. By contrast, the first train to Agrigento doesn't depart until 7:35.

2. The last Cuffaro bus back to Palermo leaves at 18:30. The last train back leaves at 20:05.

3. You save money by travelling by bus in both directions: a round-trip bus ticket costs only 12.80 Euros, versus a round-trip train ticket of 15.70 Euros. However, a one-way bus ticket is slightly more expensive than a one-way train ticket.

4. From the bus terminal in Agrigento, walk 400 yards towards the sea to the piazza in front of the train station. There, take a local bus down the hill to the Archeological Museum and Archeological Zone.

NOTES:

1. You can also see Agrigento as a daytrip out of Catania:

2. You can also get to Agrigento from both the Catania Airport (daily) and the Palermo Airport (daily except Sunday). Service from Catania is much, much more frequent:

3. Finally, from Agrigento, you can get to Castelvetrano/Mazara del Vallo/Marsala/Trapani by bus (connect in Castelvetrano for Selinunte):

4. As well as to Licata and Gela, by bus (connect in Gela for Ragusa, Modica, Noto and Siracusa):
