Afternoon Excursion from Heathrow

I'll be leaving Dorset around 10:00 am Monday, arriving at the Premier Inn Terminal 4 at Heathrow around 1:00 pm, and flying out Tuesday morning. I'm looking for suggestions for the afternoon. I use a very lightweight mobility scooter, which makes public transportation tedious, so it would need to be somewhere within reasonable taxi range. I had thought Hampton Court Palace, but there are some posts that make that seem to be a bad idea. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Why? It would depend on the particulars of the individual situation. In some case it wouldn't work - like trying it by public transport. But I don't see any reason you shouldn't be able to by taxi. HCP is a wonderful site and less than 10 miles from the Premier Inn.

Hampton Court is a great idea, although there isn’t much time if you arrive at 1pm then head out to HC. You’ll be in rush hour traffic from HC to T4 on the way back but since your flight is not until the next day it won’t matter, unless you have dinner near to HC before heading back, by that time the traffic will ease. Kew Gardens is another option if you enjoy gardens. Windsor is also possible.

We went to Hampton Court by public transport, and survived.

I don't recall it being especially difficult - we researched through TFL before we landed, caught a bus and off we went.

It's just the rigjt distance for a quick excursion before a flight.

The OP uses a scooter, so a taxi or pre-booked car service would be an easier option.

Bus route 111 goes from Heathrow central bus station to Hampton Court, every 10-15 mins or so. The destination of the bus is Kingston upon Thames and the closest stop for HCP is Hampton Court Green/Cardinal Wolsey. Even if the OP wanted to go by public transport, the bus takes over an hour, more like an hour and a half almost for a trip that takes 30-40 mins by car/taxi (depending on traffic). A taxi would cost around £25-30 each way.

Thanks for the reassurance -- Hampton Court Palace it is, then. Any particular recommendations for taxi / car services?

Try Addison Lee or Parker’s Car Service. Parker’s do regular taxi runs as well as airport transfers.

Premier Inn might have a taxi company they use, could try them too.

Thanks for all the good advice! We had a lovely afternoon at Hampton Court Palace. We used the car service recommended by the hotel, Town Link Cars, and we were quite happy with them.
