AFFORDABLE, yet safe and central hotel in Rome?

Know of any good hotels around Spanish Steps or Termini station? I'm hoping for something nice around $120-150. Is that hard to find?

Try Domus Julia/Hotel Julia, very near the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. My daughter and I felt very safe there, as we did in all of Rome at all hours of the day and night.
We just recently paid 170 EUR for a double/twin, including a nice hot and cold breakfast buffet. A ten percent coupon for it is posted somewhere on Virtual Tourist, but I couldn't use it since I'd already booked through venere.com. (Lesson #1, always book directly with the hotel when at all possible, for the best rate.)
Your price may be a challenge, but search this forum carefully for other names.
I know the Hotel Panda is mentioned a couple of times, and it is very inexpensive.
If you don't mind having a curfew, try the convents, too. They are very reasonable, though spartan (obviously, duh!).

It has a curfew and is run by the catholic church but Instituto Santa Juliani de Falconeri is well located, clean and possibly less than your budget. Near Piazza Navona.

Schnookier,

Try Hotel Giardino Rome. Great location, cosy, clean and super friendly and helpful owner, Katy. It's a 2*, I paid 90E / night for a single room with A/C in Sept, high season. They have a web site!

Buon viaggio!

Try the Hotel San Carlo, very close to the Spanish Steps. This is their website, and you can check out their rates:
