Affordable eating near Waldorf Hilton London

Although it is not the hotel I was hoping for, I just won the Waldorf Hilton in London and I'm wondering what affordable eating options are in that area. The hotel charges 22 pounds/person for breakfast!

I forgot to say this was a Priceline bid.

It has excellent reviews and an excellent location, so I hope you don't feel too bad about it. What hotel were you hoping for?

There are several Pret a Manger close by - check http://www.pret.com . Although I don't recall this area exactly, I'm certain there are coffeeshops such as Cafe Nero and Starbucks nearby also.

See if you can find a nearby Tesco or Sainsbury. That could give you numerous tasty options.

You're best to just wander around and you will find plenty of restaurants that are "affordable".

Don't know about breakfast choices outside a hotel. But for other meals, try www.timeout.com and www.fancyapint.com. The first is the on line version of the weekly magazine with "hip" and tend to be less expensive ideas with a search feature. The second is a pub review website that lets you search by tube station or other location identification. Another idea if you don't need to eat right when you get up is the cafe at most museums for a coffee or tea and scone at least a nice setting usually for a nice price as they usually open the same time the museum or even just before.

We stayed at the Waldorf Hilton last April and couldn't have been more pleased with the hotel or the location. I hope you got as good a deal as we did, $110/night (USD) It is close to lots of the things we wanted to do and see in London. Within a stone's throw of a dozen theaters, Covent Garden, several pubs, just a few blocks from Picadilly Circus.

You can find almost anything you want to eat for any pocketbook in the area. Try the pasties from the shop at Covent Garden. They make a great inexpensive breakfast. The doormen and people at the front desk of the WH were very helpful with suggestions.

Thank you all for your excellent suggestions. Maybe I won't have to take out a second mortgage after all!

PBH,
We "discovered" the bus system on this last trip to London. We had always done the tube before but you don't see the stuff in between stops and you are required to go up and down lots of stairs and long tunnels. If you are just going around in the central area the busses are cheaper, more to see and there is a stop right outside the door to the Waldorf Hilton.
