Aer Lingus

Has anyone flown this airline? Safe? Good service? Thoughts?

You should probably do a search on this. It is a frequent topic of conversation here. Some love them, some hate them. They are usually cheaper if you are leaving from one of their departure cities (NY, Boston, Chi, LA). If you are leaving from one of those cities, you can usually get some very good rates form Sceptre tours if you are willing to travel during low season.<BR><BR>The general word is that their amenities are not what other airlines are. You will find that both United and American use them as a code share partner to Ireland.<BR><BR>The good news is that, if you are using them, you are going to Ireland and there isn't anything much better than that.<BR><BR>Bill

Flew them last week and it was a fine flight. Took off, landed on time, good service onboard (they now have Guinness). Dinner was pretty good (beef or chicken) but the lunch returning was a bland sandwich.

I don't like Aer Lingus, but every few years, I forget how bad the last flight was and fly with them again. If you can get a REALLY good fare, then fly them. But make sure it's worth it. I would only fly them if I could save at least $150 per ticket over the next cheapest airline.

Love Aer Lingus! Have flown them several times and the food service and staff are a nice change of pace from other airlines. Also they shocked the heck out myself and a friend when they upgraded us from coach to First Class from Chicago to Dublin. It was my birthday and I never said a word. The check in agent handed us back our boarding passes and passports and said "Happy Birthday". I almost fell on the floor when we noticed at the security gate that she had moved us into first class.

Had a wonderful flight on AL just last week returning from Dublin (code share with American which we used into London). The seats were comfortable, good leg room, and the meal service far exceeded American. Yes, they have Guinness available on drink cart. One thing I liked was the "open bar" policy. After the dinner service was finished and the final coffee cart had gone around they announced that for the remainder of the flight it was open bar in the galley areas - just come on up and server yourself whatever you wanted. The attendents sat out all the drinks (beer, wine, liquor mixers, little bottles of booze, soft drinks) and snacks and you could just go up as ofter as you wished to help yourself. If what you wanted wasn't out then one of the attendents was happy to run it down for you (unless they were out and the Guinness went pretty fast). <BR><BR>Overall I was very happy with AL and would not hesitate to fly them again. They must be making a lot of people happy as I just saw in Irish Times that they announced that they will make a 40 million Euro profit this fiscal year. Given what the other lines are doing financially this is outstanding.
