ekc,

Drinks are on me if we are ever on the AC at the same time!

denisea, Obviously, I completely agree with you. Of course we always end up sleeping through half of the ride, but to me- especially if you have four or more people along- it's almost worth the money to avoid all the hassles with luggage and more transportation connections after a long flight.

you guys are awesome. Love all the advice, opinions and that everyone can accept the differences in what we want. Now to just get there!

Checking back for any updates to your trip planning @denisea. Appreciate all the suggestions here and I am definitely going with a private driver. Has anyone used www.worldtours.it? They quoted 300 euros for a driver from FCO to Naples, 350 euros to Positano. IC Bellagio quoted 617 euros (!). Good input from @WWK on tiberlimo too - I'm with you that it's always best to get recs here from others that have used the service.
@rineurope really sold me on the decision to hire a private luxury car service ... "soft music, leather seats, bottled water" ... which company is that??

Question for @WWK re TiberLimo and for you @denisea and whomever you've decided to book with for your FCO - Positano transport: we're you required to pay a deposit ahead of time and/or would that be considered normal policy?

goldngirl,

We last did this three years ago and I remember paying them on arrival in Positano. I don't know if that policy has changed.

At the time of our booking, we were also offered a free transfer from a hotel in Rome back to FCO, if we used them for the trip to the AC, and back to Rome the night before our flight home. Again, no idea if that's still on offer.

All I can say is that we've been to the AC many times, used a few other car services who shall not be named, and Tiberlimo was definitely the best.

Good luck!

Hi denisea, wondering how you're doing and how your plans for the AC are materializing. Have missed you on Fodor's lately; but then, we haven't been keeping up as much as usual. Hope all is well with you!

Take the train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale. Arrange in advance for www.transferelax.com to drive you from the Naples train station to your hotel in Positano for 90 euros. We were there this time last year and this is what we did: We flew in to Naples, were driven to our hotel in Positano, stayed for a week, then were driven to Napoli Centrale for our train trip to Rome. Worked out great.

Sorry. I meant to reply to another thread and mistakenly replied to this one when I was looking up the website from my profile page.

Hi Denisea, glad to see the update on your AC trip plans. 90 days, eh? May it go fast! The AC is so beautiful.

We have a very different trip planned for September. . .Central Europe. We call it "Capitalizing on the Capitals" because we're not going out into the countrysides.

Will be eager to read your TR! But hope to catch you on Fodor's before then.

Speaking of Fodor's, do you know anything about LowCountry Islander? Her posts are always so interesting, but lately we haven't seen any. Hope she is OK.

Denisea, I just got back from my annual trip to Positano and it is as gorgeous as always. Jealous of your short countdown, as I am back to a years countdown!

I'm also going in September.

Denise, did you settle on a driver from Rome to AC? That's next on my list.

Hi Denisea!

We were in the AC one full week last september, we were a group of eight, and for six of us it was the second visit. We were really happy with our base in Positano , doing many visits via Ferry.

September is really good usually, and you will enjoy everything, please remenber...
No Starbucks, no diet Coke, just coffe, wine, prosecco and ...and glorious food!

Waiting for your report.....and planning our third visit!

Chaz will be totally happy with espresso (he did manage a week in Paris without Starbucks and he loved the espresso in Italy). I have cut way back on diet coke, so I think I can manage (but I bet I can find a Coke Light somewhere).

I have decided on Francesco and actually just booked him for the transfer.

Tomarkot--LowCountryIslander is just fine. Cooking, wine tasting, riding her bike and I think her last trip was Italy (maybe more near Torino???). She's on Twitter lots @ProseccoPrincess (but I feel bad for never cooking anything that sounds as good as what she is having)! Love your trip name BTW...sounds intriguing!

You can find Diet Coke at the Buca di Bacco bar at the base of the lion steps - I slipped and had one when I was there last week. ;-)
