Advice - Amalfi to Rome

We are staying in Amalfi before heading to Rome in September. Planning to catch a ferry from Amalfi to Salerno and then train to Rome. Need help with the choices please.
: The earlier 10.35 ferry from Amalfi gives us an hour to spend in Salerno before catching a direct Frecciabianca train arriving in Rome just after 3pm.
: The 12.45 ferry from Amalfi gives us an extra 2 hours in Amalfi and allows us 30mins to catch the Intercity train to Naples changing to a Frecciarossa train from Naples to Rome. (Arrives Rome just after 4)
My questions: Two extra hours in Amalfi sounds nice but if we catch the later ferry, is it tricky to change trains in Naples from an Intercity to Frecciarossa? Is half an hour enough time to get off the ferry and walk to train station?
Would it be better to play it safe, spend an hour in Salerno and catch Frecciarossa to Rome?

I wouldn't say it's tricky to change trains in Naples. If memory serves, you just take one flight of stairs to the other tracks. Still, I'd opt for the direct train from Salerno. There's just too much that can go wrong when you start cutting things close and add a change to the itinerary.

Haven't used the ferry so I have no info about that.

An intercity train could arrive in Naples using the exact same tracks as a Frecce train so I don't see the issue about changing trains. The tracks are in rows side-by-side all on the same level. You can't predict your track number (they can and do change at times). You could arrive track 2 and be departing from track 20 so I guess that could be a bit of a trek, but no different than any other station.

Here's the station map. Select the platform level to see the layout of the tracks.

Are you also looking at Italo trains?

I have just looked up Italo trains from Salerno to Rome but they only leave about 15mins to get from the ferry dock in Salerno to the train station so not much room for error if the ferry is running late.
There is also an Intercity train direct from Salerno to Amalfi although it takes 3hrs to reach Rome.

I'm sure ky is correct about the changing-trains procedure in Naples. It's been about 3 years since I did it, so my memory could be off.
