Adventure in or between Budapest, Prague, Vienna

Hi, everyone. I'm planning a trip through these three cities in May. However, looking at destination guides, I can tell that I'm going to suffer from architecture, museum, and statue fatigue.

I'm looking for adventurous activities to break up some of the traditional sightseeing. Whitewater rafting, roller coasters, karting (rental), bungee jumping, you name it. In a pinch, I'll settle for difficult hikes -- just something to get some adrenaline going between all of the cathedrals and whatnot.

Thanks!

How would you feel about going to the opera?
What you are searching for is located in New Zealand.

I am planning to go to the opera!

However, I find it hard to believe that millions of people subsist on opera alone in those countries. Surely there are *some* adventure sport opportunities. I can't be the only one who needs physical activity to break up day after day of cultural activity.

Cesky Krumlov offers some water activities that looked fun. Don't know what the weather will be like in May, though.

Whitewater rafting is available outside Imst, Austria (Innsbruck is the nearest city to Imst whose name you will immediately recognize).

There is also hang gliding near there if you are really adventurous. I did not do that, although my then 13 year old son looked longingly at it. Thankfully, he was too young for the age limit or we would have had an argument. No way Mom would have allowed him to do that.

Oops. I just notice you are going in May. I am not sure if whitewater trips will be up and running then. They are seasonal, the water is glacial melt water and very cold. You do have to wear wet suits (provided by the outfitters).

Here is a kayak outfitter in Cesky Krumlov that we hope to use during our trip in May. We don't plan to do white water, but the "Devil's Current" sounds like it may be for you.

Vienna to Budapest is roughly along the spa line (geothermal fault line) so you get hot pools like in NZ. But these are very different. Might be worth a search
