Accomodations near Nice
We, a Canadian couple in their 50's will be in Provence and the Cote d'Azur for one week at the beginning of May. ( after a week in Paris) We will have a car. We are hoping to stay in St Remy de Provence for 4 days as our base to explore Provence and then head along the coast towards Nice. As our Canadian dollar is now becoming worthless, we are looking at reasonable accomodations ( chambre d'hote, small hotel) near, not in Nice, perhaps in one of the hilltop mountain villages such as Vence, Turbide, etc) for 4 days. We will be leaving for home from Nice.

I'm a little confused. Do you prefer to stay outside of Nice? In May, you should be able to find reasonably priced accomodations in Nice proper. Some places to check out: Hotel Suisse, Hotel Windsor, maybe Hotel Grimaldi, and the newish Nice Garden.
Outside of Nice in Villefranche,(in the direction of Monaco) is the very small and very popular Hotel Welcome. Villefranche is only about 20 minutes from Nice, only a few minutes away from St. Jean.

Try the Le Mas du Roc B&B, near Grasse. Lovely hostess, good breakfasts, very attractive rooms, pool, beautiful grounds, near good restaurants. The web site is

We stayed there in December; you can find my trip report if you want details.
