Accomodations in Windsor

A few years ago my wife, son and I spent our last night in England at the Oakley Court hotel in Windsor - a 19th century manor on the Thames - a short drive to Heathrow the next AM. We really enjoyed ourselves - ordered room service, lounged by the river, had a great breakfast before departing after a great two-week vacation. I'd do it again without hesitation.
Hi Carol --

No clue on the lodgings front, but check out the Two Brewers pub near the entrance to Windsor Great Park.

It's a free house (not tied to any one brewery, so big beer & wine selection) & it does great food, compared to many other places in touristy Windsor.

Have fun!
xo
T

I see these earlier postings on Windsor did not get much response. Does anyone else have recommendations on lodgings in Windsor within easy walking distance of the castle? I am attending a meeting there and the Castle Hotel is way too expensive--hoping for 100 Pounds or less.

Kay,

There are a couple of small hotels and B&Bs in Eton, just a short walk across a pedestrian bridge from Windsor. Eton is a pleasant small town, site of the famous boy's school. One of the hotels is:

Christopher Hotel
110 High Street
Eton
SL4 6AN
Phone 01753 852359
FAX: 01753 830914

Also, the Christopher Wren's House hotel is located on the river at Windsor...I've not stayed there (it is probably over £100) but it is a good place to have tea and watch the swans on the Thames:
Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel
Thames Street
WINDSOR
SL4 1PX
Phone 01753 861354
Fax 01753 860172

Enjoy your trip!

David White
www.KidsToLondon.com

have any of you taken a cab from Heathrow to Windsor (or vice versa) and if so what did it cost? I'm trying to find an alternative to a night at an airport hotel but we have luggage and cannot do public transport. Please, don't tell me "it was not much" - that is not much help, I'm looking for dollar/pound amounts if possible. Also are cabbies OK with taking you for a short haul like that? Thank you.
