accomodation in Villach, Austria

We are trying to get from Prague to Venice the quickest way possible. We would like to overnight in a small town close to Venice and are thinking of Villach on the Austria, Italy border. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good accomodation there or anywhere about 2-3 hours from Venice.
Thanks very much.

Villach is nice, but I prefer to stay nearby in Velden, on the Worthersee. It's a really neat place, but also there are several other towns along the north shore of the Worthersee, each with a number of very good hotels. Portschach is a nice town on the lake not far from Velden. And along the south shore are a few nice places, the most attractive of which is Maria Worth, whose cathedral is a big draw. Finally, since I like lakeshore places for a relaxing overnight, I might recommend another nearby spot---Milstatt, on the Milstattersee, or farther down the lake, the town of Seeboden. Any of these make a great stop for a day or a week.

Thanks for the suggestions, Wayne. Do you recall the names of any of the hotels in Velden or a site where I can locate them?

Wayne,
It sounds like you know this area well. We will be staying in Ossiach for a week later this month. Is this a nice area? Any "can't miss" suggestions?
Thanks.
Suzanne

agree with Wayne's suggestion - only because I thought Villach was totally mediocre. No way would I choose to stay there.
