Accommodations in Wicklow
Thinking of renting a car in Dublin for an overnight trip to see the Wicklow Mountains, Glendalough and Powerscourt. We are more town people than country people and will be traveling in November, which I imagine will be pretty quiet, so I am thinking something in a village/town might be best. Can you suggest anywhere we could stay that would allow us to walk from our hotel to restaurants and pubs? We are looking to pay no more than 200 Euro for the night. Tinakilly House and Hunter House near Rathnew sound nice, but might be more secluded than we want. Any suggestions?
Thanks very much!

kireland, I see that you have several posts going about this trip. When you ask about acc. in Wicklow, do you mean County Wicklow or Wicklow town?
You might enjoy staying in Bray or Greystones which are in County Wicklow on the shore. Glendalough, Powerscourt, the Wicklow Hills are all an easy drive from these towns even with the very short days of November upon you.
Greystones has a nice beach and harbor, though I imagine the boats will be put away in November. There are some nice B&Bs there and a couple of good restaurants for an evening meal. Two grocery stores if you are thinking of buying supplies to eat a picnic up in the hills.
Bray is a bit larger with more choices of places to eat and several hotels. There is a promenade along the beach.
There is a great walk along the beach and over the headland (Bray Head) between the two towns. You can walk one way and take a train or bus back--frequent service between the two towns.
I lived in this area when I taught school there so it is special to me. I try to get back every few years to visit friends from 40 years ago.
Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks teacher33. Bray or Greystones sound like a good bet. I did read soemehere else that Wicklow Town doesn't offer much. Nice that you suggested a picnic - I had been thinking the exact same thing - taking a walk in the mountains or around Glendalough and picking a pretty place for a bite. I don't mind the cold - I'm from Canada! The big concern is the evenings - I know they will be long and even though it's the off season we were hoping for a village or town that would have a few things going on. I have started to look into Greystones and Bray. We are doing one night in Howth as well.
Oh - and you're right about the number of threads I have going! I had trouble with a triple post to start! And then I thought I might be better off breaking my threads down into more bite sized pieces for people to answer so I do have a number on the go. I am a bit of a planning freak and I really want to have at least where we're staying each night booked soon. Thanks again for your help!

Padhraicin, You can use this website to make small URLs so that your very long URLs do not stretch out the page to unmanagable widths: www.tinyurl.com
A word of warning on the glendalough accommodation page you provided; some of the B&Bs listed no longer exist.
