There are lots of web reservation places... Gites-de-france, Clevacances, At Home in France, and others. Use your search engine. We have rented an apartment in the medieval center for September thru the office of tourism in Sarlat. Their e-mail address is [email protected] and their website is WWW.sarlat-tourisme.com
They will mail you a fabulous brochure with lots of choices plus a city map, etc.

If you want to be right in the heart of Sarlat in a nice hotel, the best choice is La Madeleine. Elegant, convenient (except on market days - Wednesday and Saturday - when the whole town is a bottleneck), and good value. It's the nicest hotel in town. Don't harbor any illusions about it being in the middle of the old restored medieval part of town - though it's only a stone's throw away. There are no hotels that I know of that are actually in the old medieval streets - I think that may be prohibited by Malraux's Law. But you're a two-minute walk there from most of the hotels.
