Yes, Diane, that was in 2003 -- 12 years ago. People only remember the exceptional years and not all of the totally ordinary ones. Summer temperatures have been below normal in Paris for the past several years (yes, while the south sizzled).

If your apartment has true central a/c and not just a glorified fan - which is what some of those units on the interior walls really are - then consider yourself fortunate. However, this apartment looks to be on the sunny side of the street and appears to be on one of the upper floors, with a low ceiling. It will be hot in there, no matter what you do.

Paris is one of the worst cities to visit in the summer months. I realize that school vacations have a lot to do with it, but due to the lack of creature comforts and the enormous crowds in Paris, I would recommend going somewhere else - preferably someplace with trees, running water, plenty of ice and full-on central air conditioning. I am thinking about taking my family to Norway, this year - just to get out of Paris.

Hi-it is true central ac. We will be in France for 3 weeks-1st week in Dordogne, 2nd in Provence (Goult) and third in Paris. Have been assured the central ac work quite well.

I remember those hot hot summers but also remember the cool ones but prefer to err on the side of caution and apt is booked!

It's not the dire necessity it can be in other places, but Paris can be quite the humid place and if you're in a place where a breeze is hard to catch it could be the difference between life and death! Still, if it breaks the budget, seeing Paris and sweating is better than not seeing it at all I guess. If you can afford the ac, do it!
