Abruzzo-Places to see, stay, eat?
Thought I'd try one more time as the visitors to this site keep changing- any folks knowledgable about the Abruzzo? (Chieti, Scanno, Sulmona, hiking in Abruzzo National Park, Ortona, Lanciano???) We are going in June and using Lanciano as our base: we know it well as my daughter has been at school there for two years but would like to branch out and even the best guide books (i.e. Fodor's, of course!) are sketchy on sites to see, and placxes to eat in this area- its beautiful and we' like to know it better. Any suggestions welcome...

Sorry, I'm not knowledgeable, but how's your Italian? If you're up to it, the Touring Club Italiano has a bunch of different guidebook series and they cover all areas of Italy. Their website is www.touringclub.it. I'm sure Abruzzo is covered in their Guide Rosse series, which is a huge encyclopedic series. If that's too much detail you could check out the Guide Rapide. They also do a series of mountain climbing books in collaboration with the CAI (Italian mountaineering club).
