We will be in France for 7 weeks. (leaving 9/1) We are taking a multitude of Green Guides, maps, notes, etc.. I would like to wait till we get there to buy the Red Michelin Guide as it is so heavy..we will have a car when we get there.

Our first stop is Rouen,then to Honfleur, Bayeux,Mont Saint Michel, etc...do you think there is a good chance I will find the Red Guide in any of these places?

You ought to be able to find the Red Guide there, but it could take up precious sightseeing time. Try asking at the local tourist office.

If you see a hypermarché (large shopping center) along the way, make a quick stop--often you can find the Guide in the section with maps.

Michelin Red Guide France (24 euro) is on sale in every bookshop and in tourist shops that sell maps and guides. You shouldn't have any trouble finding it in Rouen.
While it has keys in English, the main description is in French. But if you go to www.viamichelin.com and choose English, you get English description of entries for hotels and restaurants. You may want to print out details for the main towns you are visiting and take them with you. The book is still useful just for the town plans marked with listed establishments.

And not just the town plans! The guide also shows the primary routes into most towns, which is extremely helpful.

Thanks for all the help. I have a copy of the Red Michelin from the library and I can see how valuable it is. As usual, I get great advice. What would I do without all of you.

If you are doing a good deal of driving, you may want the large format yellow Michelin map book that covers all of France. The maps are quite detailed and the book is cheaper than a pile of local maps. You still need the red guide for the city street maps.
