oh, good; a question I can answer....
I have a bit of a problem with the idea of pub food, because IMHO, pub food is usually prepared by someone who is more concerned about the quality of the beer.
Having said that, try (starting at the bottom of Union Street or nearby, and working up- east to west)The Illicit Still; mmmm- long way up....; the Globe in North Silver Street, the Stadia, Soul- it's excellent, but it's more of a restaurant with drink-; the Howff; and Beluga.
I assume from the phrasing of your question that you've asked something else. When I find it, I'll see if I can add anything here.

girl on her own...? You might feel slightly out of place in Stadia and the Howff- then again, you might not.
Should you care to email me, I'm around and can show you round a bit, if you like. But I am in France from Friday for a week, so don't expect an urgent response if you email then
